SCOUTING Ireland has attempted to get in to the Guinness Book Of Records for the most amount of people shaking hands at the same time.

The event, the biggest ever held in Ireland, took almost three years to plan, was attended by scouts from all over the world and was run by a volunteer task force of more than 1,000 adults. Speaking before the attempt, Ciara Higgins of Scouting Ireland said: "This will be a bit different as the scout handshake is made with the left hand.

"We wanted to end with something unique and what better way to do it than get into the world record books."

The group are currently waiting to hear if they broke the record.
