SCIENTIFIC-ATLANTA INTRODUCES RADIO-CONTROLLED UTILITY SERVICE RECONNECT DEVICE

New Product Allows Utilities to Restore or Interrupt Power
 At Residential Customer's Service Entrance
ATLANTA, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- A new product which will help electric utilities remotely control residential customer's electrical service on demand has been introduced by Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. (NYSE: SFA).
The Service Reconnect Device (SRD) is designed to be a valuable, cost-saving device for any electric utility where frequent customer site visits are required. These could include seasonal utility customers, individually metered load management projects, high turnover or problem accounts. Through the use of SRD units, utilities can interrupt or restore power via radio commands far more cost effectively than using utility personnel to visit the individual sites.
Developed by Scientific-Atlanta's Control Systems Division, the SRD features a VHF radio-controlled receiver that plugs into a residential electric utility meter. The SRD can interrupt or reconnect electrical service in response to commands from a master controller located in a central office.
Scientific-Atlanta is a world leader in broadband communications systems, cable television electronics, satellite-based communications networks and instrumentation for industrial, telecommunications and government applications.
