 BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. (NYSE: SFA) and ANTEC Corporation (NASDAQ: ANTC) today announced plans calling for the formation of a joint venture to provide a wide range of broadband network communications products and services to cable television and telephone companies in Latin American markets.
 The new entity is scheduled to commence business as of Jan. 1, 1994.
 The venture will be an equal partnership between Scientific-Atlanta and ANTEC and will serve as the exclusive marketing and sales organization for each company's broadband network products and services for all of South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
 The venture will be headquartered in Miami, and intends to operate under the name Comunicaciones Broadband, S.A. It plans to open facilities in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.
 David Morales of Scientific-Atlanta will be president of Comunicaciones Broadband, S.A. Eric Perbohner of ANTEC has been named as executive vice president of the new venture. Jerry Fernandez of ANTEC will serve as the senior sales executive for Comunicaciones Broadband S.A.
 "Growth in Latin America markets for broadband network systems points to excellent opportunities for those companies well-equipped to address the complete design and implementation needs of the region," noted Larry Enterline, president of worldwide sales and marketing for Scientific-Atlanta's Broadband Communications Group. "This joint venture with ANTEC will provide dedicated resources to address these emerging technologies."
 Bruce VanWagner, ANTEC's chairman and chief strategist for international expansion, stated: "We've seen very strong demand in Latin America for an experienced single-source supplier of all the products and technical services needed to support first-class broadband networks. ANTEC and Scientific-Atlanta are perfect partners to bring this comprehensive capability to Latin America."
 Comunicaciones Broadband S.A., as a joint venture of ANTEC and Scientific- Atlanta, will be a technology integrator and supplier of a full range of products for broadband telecommunications networks, emphasizing the proprietary products of ANTEC and Scientific-Atlanta. Scientific-Atlanta and ANTEC are currently negotiating the final terms of the joint venture, which is subject to execution of a definitive agreement.
