SCHWAB ROLLS OUT FIRST ON-LINE TRADING SOFTWARE FOR WINDOWS; MAKES MANAGING INVESTMENTS EASIER THAN EVER

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. (NYSE: SCH) one of the nation's largest brokerages, has introduced the first on-line trading software for the Microsoft Windows operating environment. Called StreetSmart(TM), the new software package lets investors trade on-line, get realtime quotes, do research and manage their portfolios 24-hours-a-day, from their desktop personal computers.
"StreetSmart furthers our commitment to empowering our investors with the tools they need to make informed trading decisions," said Charles R. Schwab, company founder and chairman. "Now, more easily than ever, our clients can buy and sell securities -- 24-hours-a-day -- armed with the latest information. We understood that our customers have busy careers and personal lives that make it difficult for them to trade and manage their portfolios during traditional brokerage hours. With StreetSmart, clients can connect to our service to place trades, check account information and obtain real-time quotes whenever they choose."
Priced at $59, with $25 off the first trade, and sold through Schwab's local offices nationwide, StreetSmart gives users access to all the information they need to manage their investments -- from their own desktops. StreetSmart provides the following features:
-- Trade stocks, options, bonds and over 700 mutual funds
-- Real-time quotes and market indicators
-- The broadest range of trading types available
-- Save 10 percent of commissions
-- Instant review of account balances, positions
 and status of open orders
-- The ability to create an unlimited number of portfolios
-- The ability to enter an order, review it for accuracy, cancel
or execute it in a minute of less, 24-hours-a-day
-- Create custom reports and graphs
-- Facilitate tax reports with Schedule D information
Schwab will provide StreetSmart users with free technical support. In addition, there are no long-distance fees for users to go on-line. For new StreetSmart purchasers, Schwab offers a $25 discount on the first trade, a free hour of Dow Jones News/Retrieval and Standard & Poor's MarketScope.
StreetSmart, the first on-line trading software for Microsoft Windows, follows a historical timeline of Schwab technology achievements, including:
-- The first 24-hour quote service
-- The first 24-hour, seven-day-a-week order entry and quote service
-- The first trading service to use a mainframe computer
