SCHUCK'S OWN DANNIELLE DEPORTER TO COMPETE IN PIT CREW CHALLENGE
SEATTLE, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Top-fuel drag racer Dannielle DePorter, who campaigns a 5,000 horsepower dragster sponsored by Schuck's Auto Supply, will be participating in the Castrol GTX Pit Crew Challenge on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 12:30 p.m., at Westlake Park, 4th Avenue and Pine Street in downtown Seattle.
The contest, part of a $50,000 seven-race series, requires "Challenge" competitor crews to remove their race vehicle's supercharger, manifold, and both cylinder heads. All eight connecting rods and pistons must be replaced before the engine can be reassembled, fired up, and run for a designated period of time.
The Seattle round of the "Challenge," part of the competition's semifinals, will take place in conjunction with this weekend's Jolly Rancher Candy Northwest Nationals, to be held in Kent, Wash.
DePorter, a 20-year old driver from Scottsdale, Ariz., is currently 14th in the National Hot Rod Association's point standing, driving Paul Smith's Schuck's Tri-Star Parts System/Exide Mega Torque batteries-sponsored '89 McKinney dragster. In this, her first full year of competition, DePorter has already broken the 4-second barrier, bursting down the quarter mile track in Gainesville, Fla. in 4.982 seconds at 277.77 miles per hour.
