 SCHOTTENSTEIN STORES ANNOUNCES DEATH OF CHAIRMAN
 COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Schottenstein Stores


Corporation ("SSC") today regretfully announced the death of its chairman, Jerome M. Schottenstein, 66. Under Mr. Schottenstein's leadership, SSC became one of the country's largest privately owned companies, with annual revenues approaching $1.5 billion.
 Mr. Schottenstein had a legendary reputation for acquiring and successfully turning around troubled companies. Notable among those were Strauss Stores, American Eagle Outfitters, GB Discount Department Stores, the Shiffren Willens Jewelry chain, Valley Fair and LF Widman Stores.
 He was also recognized as the leading liquidator in the United States. Some notable liquidations included store disposals for retailers such as Ames, Hills and Korvettes. Mr. Schottenstein also liquidated inventories for Delorean and Fiat.
 Mr. Schottenstein has been a major benefactor of many charitable organizations, which include Ohio State University's Arthur Jones Cancer Center, Harding Hospital, Yeshiva University, St. Martins Church, The United Way, and the Mesorah Heritage Foundation.
 Among his many honors, Mr. Schottenstein received an honorary doctorate from Yeshiva University and was inducted into the Central Ohio Business Hall of Fame.
 Mr. Schottenstein is survived by his wife Geraldine; children Jay, Lori, Mrs. Ann Deshe and Mrs. Susan Diamond; brother Saul; sister Mrs. Selma Harris and nine grandchildren.
