SCHNIEDERS APPOINTED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF PROCUREMENT AT SYSCO
HOUSTON, May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of the SYSCO Corporation (NYSE: SYY) has elected Richard J. Schnieders senior vice president of the company's corporate procurement organization, company officials announced today. Schnieders is currently chairman and chief executive officer of Hardin's-Sysco, a subsidiary located in Memphis. He will continue in that role through the end of calendar 1992 to insure an orderly transition of management to Bill R. Bowden, the newly-appointed president of Hardin's-Sysco.
During 1993 Schnieders will share with James A. Schlindwein the responsibilities of directing the corporate procurement activities. Schlindwein, executive vice president of procurement, joined Sysco in 1980 and plans to retire effective July 1994.
Bill M. Lindig, president and chief operating officer of Sysco said, "Jim has been a major contributor to the development of a procurement organization which has brought innovation to the industry and has provided significant benefits to Sysco's ongoing growth and success. Rick's addition to the procurement team is designed to strengthen management, assist in a smooth transition and position our company to achieve anticipated future growth while maintaining our leadership position in the industry."
Schnieders, 44, joined the executive development program at Hardin's-Sysco in 1982 and progressed to director of supplies and equipment, vice president of merchandising and executive vice president before being named president of the subsidiary in 1989. Prior to beginning his career with Sysco he held management positions with other major food industry companies.
A native of Remsen, Iowa, Schnieders graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics. He and his wife Beth and two daughters will be relocating to Houston in late August.
Sysco is the nation's largest foodservice marketing and distribution organization. The company provides its products and services to approximately 230,000 customers located across the United States and western Canada. The Sysco distribution network currently covers virtually the entire continental United States, including all of its 150 largest cities.
