 SCHERRER, ZARRAS NAMED TO NEW POSTS WITH EMERY WORLDWIDE
 PALO ALTO, Calif., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Willard H. Scherrer, Jr., has been named senior vice president and general manager of Emery Worldwide Airlines.
 The announcement was made by W. Roger Curry, president and chief executive officer of Emery Worldwide, the air freight subsidiary of Consolidated Freightways Inc. (NYSE: CNF)
 Scherrer, 50, is a senior vice president of Consolidated Freightways Inc. responsible for worldwide purchasing, equipment procurement, facility construction and maintenance for all CF trucking and air freight subsidiaries. He will continue in this position while assuming the additional responsibilities as general manager of Emery Worldwide Airlines (EWA).
 EWA is the certificated airline affiliate of Emery Worldwide. As general manager, Scherrer will oversee long-range strategic planning, airline fleet operations, the company's Dayton and Indianapolis hubs and aircraft subcontractor management. He also becomes the company's top corporate officer responsible for current and future U.S. Postal Service business.
 Scherrer succeeds John Zarras, who most recently served as vice president-general manager of the airline affiliate. Zarras has been named vice president-eastern area for Emery Worldwide.
 A 24-year CF veteran, Scherrer brings extensive experience in technical operations and transportation systems management to his new post.
 Scherrer joined the CF organization in 1968 as maintenance supervisor. He subsequently advanced through several management positions to become corporate director of maintenance in 1978, and a year later was elected a vice president of CF Motor Freight, the company's long-haul trucking subsidiary.
 He was promoted to vice president of CF Inc. in 1986 in charge of all procurement activities, and senior vice president in 1988, where his responsibilities included acquisition of aircraft, hub and terminal facilities and equipment for the former CF AirFreight.
 He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard University Graduate School of Business, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the American Trucking Associations' Maintenance Council and Technical Advisory Group.
 Zarras, 52, is a 30-year veteran of the air freight industry. He joined the former CF AirFreight organization in 1987 as vice president - operations in Indianapolis.
 He subsequently was promoted into increasingly responsible positions at the CF AirFreight and Emery organizations including vice president-systems operations, and vice president-airline operations prior to advancing to vice president-eastern area. He is currently responsible for Emery's operations in the eastern United States and all of Canada.
 Zarras is a graduate of Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y., where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He also holds a master's degree in industrial engineering from New York University.
 Emery Worldwide is a $1.3 billion air freight company with 245 terminal and service locations in North America and 88 countries. Emery provides professional transportation services for the expedited traffic and logistics needs of retailing, manufacturing and industrial customers. The Emery network accepts any size commercial air cargo shipment.
