SC sets aside LHC decision on disqualification of former MPA.

ISLAMABAD -- Supreme Court (SC) has set aside Lahore High Court (LHC) decision on disqualification of former MPA, Iftikhar Ahmad in fake degree case remarking that benefit of doubt should go to winner in election.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Tassadaq Hussain Jilani heard the appeal plea filed by Iftikhar Ahmad former MPA Thursday against LHC decision on his disqualification. .

The court was told that former MPA Iftikhar Ahmad was disqualified by LHC on the charges that some one else had appeared in examination in his place. But the rival group could not prove it and despite it Iftikhar Ahmad was disqualified.

The court quashed the LHC verdict observing " the accuser has to prove allegations. Benefit of doubt should be given to the winning candidate. Evidence has not been provided to prove the charges in this case".
