SC converts death sentences of two accused into life imprisonment.
ISLAMABAD -- The Supreme Court on Monday converted the death sentences of two accused into life imprisonment and directed the Lahore High Court (LHC) to announce detail verdict regarding sentence of an accused.
The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa heard different appeals filed by death sentences convicts.
During the course of proceedings, Lateef Khosa counsel for Tauseef Abbas appeared before the court and informed that the trial court awarded death sentence to accused over killing a lawyer Shahid Hameed in court premises in Gujrat in 2002.
However, the LHC announced two times death sentence to accused.
The court converted the death sentence into life imprisonment over lack of evidences.
While hearing the case of another death sentence convict Kashif Manzoor who was awarded death sentence over killing his class-mate, the court converted the death sentences into life imprisonment over bogus investigation and lack of evidences.
Hearing the case of third death row convict, the court directed the LHC to announce its detailed verdict in four months.
