 SAZTEC INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES NEW ORDERS
 BROADENED REVENUE BASE
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- SAZTEC International Inc. (NASDAQ: SAZZ), of Kansas City, today announced four new orders which will allow the company to broaden its customer base both within the United States and in Europe. The orders represent an estimated $20 million in new revenue for SAZTEC during the next few years.
"These four orders continue a diversification into new areas that will provide SAZTEC with a broadened revenue base. This diversification will allow the company to emerge from a transitional period less susceptible to major swings in revenue and profit than experienced in the past," said Richard C. Thompson, president and chief operating officer.
The opportunities presented include the selection of SAZTEC by a major U.S. computer systems company to convert paper and microform records to electronic images with related full text capture of information from the imaged records. This order is expected to generate $8 to $10 million in revenue during a two-year period with work beginning immediately. SAZTEC has received written confirmation of its selection and contract finalization and test processing are currently underway.
The second order is for the conversion of documents to electronic images for a major Midwest heavy equipment manufacturer. Production on this project has been initiated and is forecast to generate approximately $2 million in revenue during a two-year period.
SAZTEC will enter into a new line of business through a new order with the European subsidiary of a major U.S. publisher to perform remittance processing and related services in the United Kingdom. Production operations are scheduled to begin immediately and revenue from this order, which will run at least four years, is estimated to be $4 million. Prospects for additional clients in this recurring revenue business are excellent according to SAZTEC Europe management.
The fourth order, obtained through SAZTEC Europe, is related to the company's expertise in the area of library catalogue conversions and has an estimated value of at least $5 million. SAZTEC previously completed a four-year conversion project for the British Library and has five other European library conversions in progress. The latest order from a large German library will utilize the resources of SAZTEC's Ardrossan, Scotland facility. Conversion has begun and is estimated to continue into 1994.
SAZTEC Expects Loss in Second Quarter
"These new orders are very timely as the company continued to experience losses in the second fiscal quarter which ended Dec. 31, 1991," Thompson said. "We will report final results in February, but preliminary figures indicate a loss comparable to our first quarter."
The company attributes the second quarter results to a temporarily low level of European activity, start-up costs at the company's new medical transcription subsidiary, Chartnet Inc., and the overall soft economy. "It's not likely that we will return to profitability in the current quarter," Thompson said. "However, the outlook for the fourth quarter is quite good and fiscal year 1993 should be strong."
