SAUDI ARABIA FORMALIZES AGREEMENT TO PURCHASE PRATT & WHITNEY POWERED F-15s

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Pratt & Whitney (P&W) has been notified today by the U.S. Air Force that its F100-PW-229 engine has been selected to power Saudi Arabia's new fleet of 72 F-15 aircraft.
The order for approximately 154 engines, including spares, has a potential value to P&W in excess of $600 million. The engines will be built and assembled in P&W's facilities in Connecticut, Maine and Georgia. Deliveries will begin the third quarter of 1994 and extend through the end of the decade.
"We are very pleased the Royal Saudi Air Force and government have expressed confidence in Pratt & Whitney products by selecting our F100-PW-229 over the competing engine," said John P. Balaguer, president of P&W's Government Engines & Space Propulsion unit. "P&W employees can be proud their F100 turbofan is the engine of choice for 100 percent of F-15s throughout the world," he added.
The F100-PW-229 is P&W's latest model of the F100 family of engines. The F100 turbofan, with more than nine million flying hours, is the most mature, reliable and durable fighter engine in the world. In addition to powering F-15s, 70 percent of the F-16s worldwide are equipped with the F100.
Pratt & Whitney's Government Engines & Space Propulsion unit, based in West Palm Beach, Fla., designs, develops and supports military jet engines and space propulsion systems. P&W is a unit of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX) of Hartford, Conn.
