SATURDAY SERVICE OFFERED BY GENERAL MOTORS SERVICE PARTS OPERATIONS

DETROIT, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Continually improving customer service isn't just a Monday through Friday job. It happens even on the weekend at General Motors Service Parts Operations (SPO).
According to Leonard J. Decker, SPO's general director of sales, service and marketing, SPO is working Saturdays to process parts orders from GM dealerships.
SPO's expanded schedule reflects a recent National Automobile Dealers Association "Industry Analysis and Outlook" report which indicates that half of the dealership service departments are now open evenings or weekends. The report also points out that the biggest growth in "convenience" hours has been among those dealerships with weekend hours -- 30 percent, up from 23 percent in 1991.
"All domestic GM dealers can submit VIP-OVN (very important part-overnight) orders on Saturday through their normal ordering system," explained Decker, "and SPAC (SPO's Service Parts Assistance Center) is staffed on Saturday to handle dealer inquiries." Saturday order submission cut-off time is 3 p.m. EST for orders to be processed over the weekend and delivered on Monday.
"When a vehicle is brought to a GM dealership for service, our objective is to get that vehicle back on the road as quickly as possible, and we'll work weekends to achieve that goal," added Decker.
SPO, headquartered in Flint, Mich., with sales offices based in Detroit, markets automotive service and replacement parts and accessories worldwide through its GM Parts, AC-Delco and International sales activities.
