 SAPP TO RETIRE: TETZLAFF NAMED GENERAL COUNSEL OF TENNECO
 HOUSTON, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Tenneco Inc. (NYSE: TGT) announced today that Walter W. Sapp, senior vice president and general counsel, has retired from the company effective July 1. Tenneco's board of directors elected Theodore R. Tetzlaff to replace Sapp as general counsel. Tetzlaff is a senior partner and member of the executive committee in the Chicago-based law firm of Jenner & Block.
 Sapp, 62, will continue to serve Tenneco on a part-time basis as special counsel. He has been with the company since 1976.
 "Tenneco has relied on Walter's sound judgment and good advice for 16 years. I am pleased that we will be able to continue utilizing his considerable talents after his retirement," said Michael H. Walsh, chairman and chief executive officer.
 Tetzlaff, 48, will continue in his current role at Jenner & Block in addition to directing Tenneco's legal activities. He has served as Tenneco's outside counsel since September 1991.
 Tetzlaff has also been vice president, legal and external affairs, at Cummins Engine Company, and acting director of the Federal Office of Legal Services, among other positions. He currently serves as chair of the 65,000-member Section of Litigation of the American Bar Association.
 "Ted has a national reputation built on his success in private practice, corporate law and government experience," Walsh said. "He has been instrumental in helping design and implement our restructuring program and has been thoroughly involved in managing Tenneco's recent legal challenges."
 Tenneco is a diversified industrial company with major business interests in natural gas pipelines (Tenneco Gas), farm and construction equipment (J I Case), automotive parts (Tenneco Automotive), shipbuilding (Newport News), packaging (Packaging Corporation of America), and chemicals (Albright & Wilson).
