SANYO INTRODUCES LONG PLAYING BASE-BAND HIVISION VIDEO DISC PLAYER

SANYO INTRODUCES LONG PLAYING BASE-BAND HIVISION VIDEO DISC PLAYER
TOKYO, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. has developed a new high definition video disc player (HVL-B1000) that uses a unique pickup mechanism to simultaneously read both sides of a 12-inch disc. This allows up to 30 minutes of video and audio base-band(A) signals to be encoded -- making the B1000 the longest playing video disc player of its type in the industry.
The new player features still frame, frame by frame advance, fast forward, search, and programmed play all operable by remote control. The B1000 also meets Japan's HiVision high definition television studio standard to deliver superior picture definition.
Sanyo first began developing high definition video products in 1981 and later introduced the successful MUSE format HiVision video disc player. The addition of the B1000 to Sanyo's line of industry-leading high definition equipment such as the recently introduced 4.5 million pixel liquid crystal projection television will take high-definition to even greater heights.
    The HVL-B1000 measures 420mm W X 276mm H X 608mm D, and weighs 37 kg. Orders for the new video disc player will be accepted beginning Dec. 1, 1991.
    (A) "Base-band" signals are full data signals which have not undergone data compression.
