SANTORUM RETAINS BRABENDER COX FOR PROBABLE SENATE RUN

PITTSBURGH, June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Brabender Cox, a Pittsburgh-based marketing and political media firm, has been retained by the Santorum '94 Exploratory Committee for strategy and media consulting on a probable bid for the U.S. Senate, it was announced today.
U.S. Rep. Rick Santorum (R-Allegheny) recently formed the committee as a first step in an expected campaign against incumbent U.S. Sen. Harris Wofford (D-Pa.).
Santorum and Brabender Cox first achieved national prominence in 1990 with Santorum's defeat of seven-term incumbent Doug Walgren in what many observers called "the biggest congressional upset of 1990."
Two years later, in a district redrawn to include a 71 percent Democrat majority, Santorum again scored an upset victory with 63 percent of the vote. Brabender Cox provided strategy and media consulting on both races.
Television commercials created by Brabender Cox for Santorum's 1992 campaign were honored by the NBC "Today" show, as one of the 10 most creative political commercials of 1992, and at the 14th annual Telly Awards in March. In addition, one of the ads produced for Santorum was nationally syndicated by the National Republican Congressional Committee for use by candidates across the country. This and another Santorum ad were also selected for Campaign Magazine's Best of 1992 collection.
Commenting on Brabender Cox's selection, company president John Brabender said, "We've been closely involved with Congressman Santorum dating back to early planning sessions for the 1990 campaign, and we're obviously very much looking forward to a head-to-head race against the Harris Wofford/Bill Clinton/Jim Carville team."
Mike Mihalke, political division director at Brabender Cox and manager of Santorum's campaign in 1990, added, "I've worked very closely with Congressman Santorum over the years and now look forward to what will be one of the most closely watched races in the country. This election could truly represent the most accurate report card for Bill Clinton of the 1994 election cycle."
