SANTA FE INCREASES LOADINGS IN 1991
SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Santa Fe Railway today

announced it increased overall loadings by 3.2 percent in 1991 to 2,083,361. This increase reflects a 6 percent increase in intermodal loadings and a 0.64 percent increase in carload commodity loadings over 1990.
The Intermodal Business Unit celebrated a record month in October 1991 with 100,306 intermodal units loaded that month, and by Dec. 18, 1991, the one millionth unit had been loaded.
"In 1991, we had increases across all segments of our intermodal business," said Don McInnes, senior vice president-intermodal. "The market segments which demonstrated the highest growth were those served through our intermodal marketing companies (IMC), international and Quantum."
Carload increases were realized in the consumer products; chemicals, petroleum and coal; and automotive and metal groups.
Don Skelton, vice president-marketing and sales, said, "The increase in carload business was due to a better automotive year in 1991 versus 1990, shipments of pipe for a major project in the Southwest during the second quarter, and increases in shipments of cotton, salt, food products and military equipment. There were also increases in shipments of plastics, liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and coal."
