SANOFI DIAGNOSTICS PASTEUR TO BECOME SOLE SUPPLIER OF
BLOOD SCREEN PRODUCTS TO CANADIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY
MONTREAL, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur said today that the Canadian Red Cross Society's Blood Transfusion Service had selected the company's Canadian affiliate, Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur-Canada, as sole supplier of three blood virus screening tests for its 17 blood transfusion centers.
The agreement represents sales of more than $25 million (Canadian) over three years for tests and equipment used to detect the presence of HIV-1/HIV-2 (AIDS), HBsAq (Hepatitis B), and HTLV-1 (Human T Lymphotropic Virus, Type I) viruses. The products are marketed by the Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur subsidiary, Genetic Systems Corporation, in Seattle.
Jacques Roy, president of Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur-Canada, said, "Our selection demonstrates the confidence of the Canadian Red Cross in the efficiency of our test systems as well as in the quality of our customer service. The agreement is a natural extension of our current supply relationship for AIDS screening which dates from 1985."
Mr. Roy added, "This opportunity establishes SDP-Canada as the largest infectious disease immunodiagnostics supplier in Canada and reaffirms Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur's worldwide eminence as a leader in AIDS testing."
"We appreciate the opportunity to provide a national blood transfusion service as prestigious as the Canadian Red Cross on a nationwide basis," said Charyl Olander, Genetic Systems General Manager. "It's a major vote of confidence in the quality of our products and our commitment to serving the blood banking industry."
The Canadian Red Cross Society is the national provider of blood and blood products and collects more than 1.2 million donations annually. Blood for transfusion is required every 20 seconds in Canada and the Canadian Red Cross established a worldwide reputation for providing the highest quality blood for transfusion to hospitals in Canada, as well as serving the community in a number of other ways.
Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur, a world leader in blood virus diagnostic testing, is a joint venture between Sanofi Pharma, the human healthcare division of the French diversified company Elf Sanofi, and the Institut Pasteur. Elf Sanofi is a subsidiary of the Societe Nationale Elf Aquitaine group.
