SANDS SIGNS SUPERSTAR WHITNEY HOUSTON TO
 EXCLUSIVE ATLANTIC CITY PERFORMANCE PACT
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sands Hotel & Casino announced it has proudly inked a multi-year performance contract with a star of international stature, as singer Whitney Houston will bring her sparkling voice, stage presence and hit songs to the famed Copa Room stage.
The deal adds Houston to the Sands fabulous lineup, which includes premier entertainers such as Frank Sinatra, Cher, Liza Minelli and Howie Mandel. The 800-seat Copa Room will easily be Whitney's most exclusive performance venue. Houston's Sands debut is slated for early 1993.
Winner of two Grammy Awards, 11 American Music Awards and two Emmy Awards, Houston's star continues to rise and draw stunning attention. Just 28 years old, Whitney's seven consecutive No. 1 hit singles is an all-time record, surpassing the likes of The Beatles and The Bee Gees.
Sands President Bradley H. Stone said, "The Sands is overwhelmed at the opportunity to present Whitney Houston exclusively to Atlantic City audiences. Whitney is a vibrant entertainer and clearly the impact performer of the '90s."
Houston's initial impact on the music world came with unprecedented results. Her first album, "Whitney Houston," is the best-selling debut album of all time by a solo performer. Album No. 2, "Whitney," set standards of its own as only the fourth album by a solo artist, and the first by a female artist, to debut at the No. 1 spot. Whitney's third album, "I'm Your Baby Tonight," achieved multi-platinum sales and sparked a 70-city world tour. Classic singles include, "Saving All My Love for You," "The Greatest Love of All," "I Want to Dance with Somebody," and "Didn't We Almost Have it All."
An equally successful career in motion pictures may be next for Houston. She co-stars with Kevin Costner in the upcoming Warner Brothers film, "The Bodyguard," slated for release in time for the holiday season.
On Jan. 27, 1991, just 10 days into the Persian Gulf War, Houston stunned a worldwide television audience estimated at 115 million people with a stunning rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" prior to Super Bowl XXV. Sales of audio and video tapes of the performance raised more than a half a million dollars for the American Red Cross while a special concert, "Welcome Home Heroes with Whitney Houston; Live in Concert," was performed for returning troops and televised by Home Box Office.
