SANCTUARY WOODS MULTIMEDIA CORP. ANNOUNCES NEW MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENTS -- NEW U.S. OFFICE TO BE OPENED

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Sanctuary Woods Multimedia Corp. (Vancouver: SWD) a leading developer of family oriented entertainment and educational CD-ROM titles, today announced the appointment of new senior management and the planned opening of a new U.S. office in San Mateo, Calif.
Brian Beninger, the founder of Sanctuary Woods and its president since 1988, will now become chairman and chief executive officer. As full time chief executive officer, Beninger will continue to set the strategic business and creative directions of the company.
Scott Walchek will be joining the company this month as president and chief operating officer. Walchek has had an extensive and distinguished career in the software industry, most recently as director-Product Management at Macromedia Corp., San Francisco. As a senior manager at Macromedia, he played a major role in helping that company become the world's leading producer of multimedia authoring and presentation tools. Previously he was director of Marketing at the TOPS Division of Sun Microsystems in California. Walchek will have operating responsibility for the company and will spearhead its business growth in worldwide markets.
Toni Beninger has been appointed vice president-International Editions. In this new role, she will lead the development of foreign language versions of the company's popular CD-ROM titles. To date, Sanctuary Woods products, such as "The Awesome Adventures of Victor Vector & Yondo" and "Shelley Duvall's It's a Bird's Life," have sold thousands of English language copies into the Japanese and European markets. International editions are expected to expand these markets significantly. Beninger has served as a director of the company since 1989.
"I am delighted to announce these appointments," said Mr. Beninger. "They signal a new stage in the development of Sanctuary Woods. With a strong management team and a strong balance sheet, we feel well positioned to participate in the explosion of the CD titles markets."
Tim Brock has resigned as a director of the company effective March 24, 1993. As the company expands and prepares for a listing on NASDAQ, Brock felt his position on the board would better be filled by someone with skills and experience more suited to the next phase of the company's growth plans.
"Mr. Brock has made an outstanding contribution to the development of Sanctuary Woods during its's early venture capital stage," said Mr. Beninger. "We thank him for his excellent service as a director to this point and we count on his continuing friendship to the company." The company has extended their contract with Britton Capital Corp. of investor relations support to July 31, 1993.
The company is also announcing today that it will open an office in San Mateo. San Mateo is emerging as a multimedia titles development center, being the home of Electronic Arts, The 3DO Co., New Media magazine, and other such firms. Sanctuary Woods intends to open this office in May.
Founded in 1988, Sanctuary Woods is publicly traded on the Vancouver Stock Exchange (SWD). The company is a leading developer of interactive education and entertainment titles on CD-ROM.
