         SAN DIEGO GAS & ELECTRIC ANNOUNCES NEW AFTER-HOURS
          AND WEEKEND PHONE NUMBERS STARTING TODAY, JULY 1
    WHAT:  New phone number for after-hours and weekend contact at San Diego Gas & Electric will be 619-526-9555.
    WHEN:  Starting, July 1
    WHY:   Provide better service to news media
    NOTE:  SDG&E's old news media pager number, 619-491-3639, will change today, July 1.  The old number will remain active for about 30 days.  The power outage recording number, 619-232-0630, will remain the same.  News media calling the new number will be able to punch in their phone number directly, or leave a short message.  Either way, SDG&E's on-duty media representative should return calls within 30 minutes.  The media beeper service is active from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. weekdays and at all hours on weekends or holidays.  During normal business hours, call 619-696-4292 to contact SDG&E's media department.  New contact cards are being prepared for distribution.
