SAMUEL GOLDWYN THEATRE GROUP HITS MILESTONE AS CHAIN ADDS 100TH SCREEN

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing its selective expansion program and following a year of record-setting business, The Samuel Goldwyn Co.'s Theatre Group added two theaters with five screens, bringing its nationwide total to 100 screens in 16 markets.
As a result of its ongoing, unprecedented success in building audiences for independent and foreign films in numerous cities, Goldwyn's Landmark Theatre Group has grown into the largest theater circuit in the country devoted to this niche. Recent acquisitions include the Saks in Houston and The Sacramento Inn in Sacramento, Calif.
The two-screen Saks Theatre in Houston will complement the company's existing three-screen River Oaks Theatre, which has been unable to accommodate Houston's growing audience for specialized films. On Aug. 27, The Saks opened "The Wedding Banquet" to excellent response and will debut David Cronenberg's "M Butterfly" on Oct. 8.
Goldwyn will re-open the three-screen Sacramento Inn on Sept. 10. As in Houston, the Inn will complement the existing three-screen Tower Theatre, which has been unable to handle the increasing availability of strong films for the growing Sacramento audience. The Sacramento Inn will open on Sept. 10 with Steven Soderberg's acclaimed "King of the Hill" and the local premiere of James Cameron's director's cut of "The Abyss."
Samuel Goldwyn Theatre Group President Steve Gilula said: "It is exciting to reach this benchmark, which validates our belief in a growing audience of sophisticated movie-goers which have supported our efforts over the years. Their enthusiasm and the dynamic growing community of independent filmmakers has enabled us to more than double our size since 1989 when we were operating 43 screens. We will continue to carefully expand our circuit in areas where a combination of audience interest, film supply and our expertise show that there is an unfulfilled demand to be satisfied."
The Samuel Goldwyn Theatre Group is a division of the Samuel Goldwyn Co., listed on the American Stock Exchange as S/G.
