SAM A FAST WORKER; UPDATE.

IRELAND'S Sam Bennett had to think quickly to win a sprint finish into Caerphilly and claim the fifth stage of the Tour of Britain.

Sir Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky) retained the overall lead after An Post-Chain Reaction rider Bennett beat Michal Golas (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) and Martin Elmiger (IAM Cycling) to the line.

Bennett said: "I just hung in. It was a bit of a gamble going into the last corner - I went a bit wide - but I had enough acceleration to take the win."

GYMNASTICS: Scotland Commonwealth Games hope Daniel Keatings will compete only in the pommel horse at the World Championships in Antwerp later this month.

The European champion on pommel suffered a minor knee injury recently and has decided to restrict himself to one event at the championships. HOCKEY: Scotland have been reinstated to the European Indoor Nations B Division to be held in Switzerland in January following the withdrawal of Spain.

SQUASH: Edinburgh SC lost 3-1 to Luxembourg's Sandweiler and 3-1 to Norway's Hafrsfjord to finish winless in their group at the European Club Championships in Riccione, Italy.
