 SALVATION ARMY KICKS OFF CHRISTMAS NOV. 27;
 CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF THE CHRISTMAS KETTLE
 DETROIT, Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Salvation Army will kick off its 1991 Christmas fundraising efforts today (Wednesday, Nov. 27) at 11:45 a.m. at the Harbor Light Center, 2643 Park, in Detroit.
 Salvation Army Canteens and a McDonald's mobile feeding unit will serve 1,500 lunches to Detroit's homeless and needy, local business leaders, volunteers and supporters of The Salvation Army in metropolitan Detroit.
 The Salvation Army's 1991 Christmas fundraising goal of $3 million will be announced at noon, during a brief program featuring Santa Claus, a parade of traditional red Christmas kettles (which turn 100 years old this year), and a celebrity bell choir (consisting of local media representatives) accompanied by The Salvation Army Band. Local groups and organizations will present food, clothing and funds they have collected to support Salvation Army services throughout the year.
 The emcees of the kickoff include this year's honorary chairman, longtime Detroit radio and television weather man Sonny Eliot, WKQI-FM radio personality Gene Taylor and Lt. Col. Clarence W. Harvey, Eastern Michigan commander of The Salvation Army.
 "This year, more than ever, The Salvation Army is working to help those in need," said Col. Harvey. "We anticipate that this is going to be a hard winter, and many people will need our services in the form of food, clothing and shelter."
 After the program, RPM Pizza (Domino's) will unload a semi-truck full of canned food to be distributed through Salvation Army centers throughout metropolitan Detroit.
 During the 1990 holiday season, The Salvation Army touched the lives of nearly 149,000 people and provided more than 4.1 million services in 1990 to metropolitan Detroiters.
