SALMA CASTS AWAY FRIDA FEELING.
SALMA Hayek is back to her stunning self after making herself a little ugly for her latest role.
She had to wax her hairline, grow a mono-brow, start smoking and wear false earlobes to play Mexican painter Frida Kahlo.
But the 36-year-old actress looked sensational in a swimsuit shoot for Vanity Fair.
Her appearance in Frida was a far cry from her sizzlingly sexy performances in From Dusk Til Dawn and Desperado.
But she told the magazine her Latin looks made it difficult for her to get parts early in her career.
She said a studio boss once told her: "It doesn't matter how good you are.
"You can never be a leading lady because you can't take the risk of opening your mouth and people thinking of their maids - that's what you sound like."
And at a casting for a sci-fi movie, she was told: "Whoever heard of a Mexican in space?"
Now Salma, the girlfriend of Fight Club actor Ed Norton, has proved them wrong.
After the critical success of Frida, she is directing for the first time, in The Maldano Miracle.
The full interview appears in this month's Vanity Fair.
