SAIC WINS MAJOR QUALITY ASSURANCE CONTRACT

LAS VEGAS, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) to enter into negotiation for a contract worth about $80 million to provide quality assurance support services for the Civilian Radioactive Waste Management program -- including DOE headquarters in Washington and the Yucca Mountain Site Characterization Project in Nevada.
Such services include development of the Quality Assurance (QA) Program, staff training in QA procedures and conducting audits of the organizations participating in the program both at DOE headquarters and at the Yucca Mountain Project.
SAIC will subcontract parts of the work to CER Corp., a consulting firm based in Las Vegas, and to Integrated Resources Group (IRG), a small business located in Metairie, La. CER will provide QA support services, while IRG will be solely responsible for the DOE Quality Concerns Program, which responds to concerns about quality- related work reported by employees and concerned parties.
The cost-plus-fixed-fee contract funds the program from April 1, 1993 to March 31, 2001. Work on the contract will be performed in Las Vegas and Washington, D.C., mostly with existing staff.
SAIC is a high-technology company providing professional services and products to government and the private sector. Business areas include national security, health care, environment, energy and systems integration. With annual revenues of $1.5 billion, SAIC has 15,000 employees in 250 locations worldwide.
