SAIC WINS MAJOR OFF-SHORE TRACKING RANGE CONTRACT

SAN DIEGO, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) has been awarded a $24.22 million U.S. Navy contract to upgrade the offshore Large Area Tracking Range (LATR), near San Diego.
SAIC, with teammates International Research Institute (INRI), Metric and Dyncor, will upgrade existing off-shore Navy training capabilities with new technology. The first system will be developed and installed for the SCORE Range, based at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego. A similar system will be installed at Norfolk, Va., and there is an option to implement a third system at a U.S. naval facility in Puerto Rico for a total contract potential value of $51.56 million.
"This is the first of a new generation of training ranges using a Global Positioning System, or GPS," said Bruce Lawson, SAIC program acquisition manager. "This allows commanders and controllers to know precisely where training units are in a (500-mile) area of ocean."
SAIC provides high-technology services and products to government and the private sector in the areas of national security, health care, energy, environment and systems integration. With annual revenues of $1.5 billion, the company has 15,000 employees in 250 locations worldwide. SAIC is one of the largest employee-owned companies in the United States.
