SAIC WINS MAJOR DEFENSE INFORMATION CONTRACT

MCLEAN, Va., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) has been awarded a contract to help the Department of Defense trim costs by assisting the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in centralizing technical management of the defense information infrastructure.
The new system engineering and technical assistance (SETA) contract has an anticipated value of $50 million -- with a ceiling of $200 million -- over five years. SAIC's team includes six subcontractors: American Management Systems, VGS, Advanced Systems Development, Boeing, Real Decisions Corp. and Texas Instruments. The SAIC team has experience in using modern tools and techniques to consolidate information systems, introduce best commercial practices, integrate management processes, improve standardization and migrate to an open systems environment.
Work will be directed by DISA's Center for Information Management (CIM).
"In this era of change, with budget reductions, base closings and functional consolidations, it is imperative that the Department of Defense meet its goals of reducing expenditures," said SAIC Corporate Vice President Pam Fenrich. "This contract will help achieve those cost savings by using proven techniques to streamline use of large information systems."
SAIC is an employee-owned high-technology company with annual revenues of $1.5 billion. A recognized major system integrator, the company provides services in the areas of national security, energy, environment and health care.
