SAIC TEAM WINS MULTIMILLION DOLLAR INFORMATION SERVICES CONTRACT

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- SAIC (Science Applications International Corp.), as part of a team headed by Computer Science Corp. (CSC), will share a major contract from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Center for Integration and Interoperability to help modernize federal government information systems.
For this procurement, DISA selected a total of six bidding teams to share a total contract ceiling of $935 million to provide defense enterprise integration services. The contract term is one base year and six option years. SAIC estimates that it could earn as much as $25 million per year from this award.
The purpose of the contract is to allow federal defense and civilian agencies to efficiently update thousands of old mainframe computer systems by migrating them to new, standardized open systems architecture. This is called distributed processing, and it helps make agencies more service-oriented because workers have instant access to vital databases.
This Defense Enterprise Integration Services contract in effect "pre-qualifies" contractors with key skills and experience in the information systems field. This approach allows agencies to react quickly to changing demands and workloads; to modernize outdated programs without increasing permanent staff or retraining employees; reduces the number of contracts an agency has to manage; saves time; and cuts government costs.
"If an agency needs to update a payroll program, for example, it can use this contract as a mechanism to make an award without having to go through another cumbersome -- and expensive -- procurement process," said SAIC Senior Vice President Lee Murphy. "That saves everyone time and money while the government gets top-notch service."
SAIC has been ranked as one of the country's top systems integrators by several national trade journals.
SAIC provides high-technology services and products to government and the private sector. With annual revenues of $1.6 billion, the employee-owned company has about 16,000 employees at more than 250 locations worldwide.
