SAIC EXECUTES HISTORIC CONTRACT WITH THE REPUBLIC OF SAKHA

 McLEAN, Va., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) has executed an historic contract with the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) to conduct a feasibility study for a satellite-based educational network for the republic. Sakha has 1 million people spread over 1 million square miles of Siberian tundra.
 SAIC Sector Manager Allen Herskowitz executed the contract on behalf of SAIC. His technical team includes Herb Kline, Paul Chapell, and consultant Andre Butenko. The contract signing took place Sept. 23 in the office of the Minister of Education of the Republic, Egor Petrovich Zhirkov, at the government facilities in Yaktusk, the Sakha Republic.
 The four-month, $300,000 study will begin formally on Nov. 2 and will involve two working trips to Siberia for the team. A supporting team of three specialists from the Republic of Sakha will visit SAIC to participate in the study effort. The contract is funded entirely by the Ministry of Education of Sakha.
 With annual revenues of $1.5 billion, SAIC's major business areas include national security, health care, environment, energy, information systems and systems integration. The employee-owned company has 15,300 employees in more than 250 locations worldwide.
