 SAHARA RESORTS REACHES AGREEMENT WITH PREMIER ICE SKATING COACH;
 UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS ADDS HOCKEY TO CURRICULUM
 LAS VEGAS, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Paul Lowden, chairman of the board for Sahara Resorts, announced today that its Santa Fe property reached an agreement with premier skating coach Karin Doherty to train Olympic and World Team hopefuls at the Santa Fe stadium ice arena.
 Doherty is the former coach of Vladimir and Viktor Petrenko of the Soviet Union who are now competing in the Winter Olympics for the new Unified Team. She also coached Patricia Neske, a bronze medalist at the European Championships held two weeks ago, who is also competing in the Winter Olympics in Albertville, France.
 Doherty brings her talent to Las Vegas after having been with the German Ice Skating Federation for 23 years, working the last 15 as a trainer for Olympic and World Champion skaters at the International Training Center for Ice Skating in Oberstdorf, Germany.
 What this means for the city of Las Vegas according to Jean Meeks, Santa Fe's ice arena manager, it that "Our city will have the capacity to recruit Olympic and Champion hopefuls from all over the country to further their ice skating training. This will also enable local aspiring skaters to advance their ability without having to relocate to another city."
 Sahara Resorts opened its Santa Fe property in February 1991 offering the city's only ice skating rink. The ice arena is of National Hockey League size, allowing unlimited opportunity for skaters of all abilities.
 With the addition of Santa Fe's ice rink came a demand from the public for hockey and ice skating classes. In response, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has added two new physical education courses to their fall curriculum.
 Meeks, in addition to her management responsibilities for Sahara Resorts, will teach UNLV courses Beginning Ice Hockey and Beginning Skating Skills at the Santa Fe ice arena.
