SAFETY HARBOR SPA & FITNESS CENTER, THE NATION'S OLDEST AND ONE OF ITS MOST UNIQUE SPAS, TO UNVEIL $8 MILLION RENOVATION

SAFETY HARBOR SPA & FITNESS CENTER, THE NATION'S OLDEST

AND ONE OF ITS MOST UNIQUE SPAS, TO UNVEIL $8 MILLION RENOVATION
WHO: Safety Harbor Spa & Fitness Center is located at the
north end of Old Tampa Bay, 10 miles northwest of Tampa,
Fla. The Spa, built above four natural mineral springs,
was founded in 1926. The springs were first discovered
in the 16th century by explorer Hernando de Soto. Local
Indians had called the springs the Fountain of Youth,
believing the waters to hold mystical powers to
 perpetuate youth.
WHAT: The Spa will unveil the completion of its $8 million-
plus, year-long renovation project, including the
uncovering and restoration of one of the Spa's most
unique -- and prized -- features: its natural mineral
springs located underground, beneath the Spa's main
 building complex.
At a time when resorts and health spas catering to an
upscale clientele are both cutting back and scaling down
to wait out the current economic recession, Safety Harbor
Spa and Fitness Center is doing just the opposite. The
renovations are expected to put the Spa at the front of
the industry and in a strong marketing position -- when
the economy rebounds -- to capture one of the fastest
(and wealthiest) groups of consumers: the up-scale,
upper end of the "baby-boom generation," ages 35-55 years
 old.
 WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 1
Media is invited to visit Safety Harbor Spa to preview
the completed renovation and refurbishment at any time.
WHERE: The Spa is located at 105 N. Bayshore Drive, Safety
Harbor, Fla., a convenient 20 minutes from Tampa
 International Airport.
CONTACT: Bina Kumar, director of public relations, 813-726-1161, or Michael Darling, public relations counsel, 202-232-4039, both for Safety Harbor Spa and Fitness Center.
