SAFECARD ELECTS NEW MEMBER TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 CHEYENNE, Wyo., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- SafeCard Services, Inc. (NYSE: SSI) today announced that Marshall L. Burman, a Chicago attorney with a background in corporate and securities law, has been elected to the company's board of directors.
 Burman, 64, is of counsel to the firm of Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon. For more than 30 years prior to 1992, he was a partner in the law firm of Arvey, Hodes & Mantynband and its successor, Arvey, Hodes, Costello & Burman.
 His election increases the SafeCard board to four outside plus two inside directors. The company, in its announcement, said it intends to further expand the board.
 Burman's other current board memberships include Helene Curtis Industries, Inc., and CFI Industries, Inc.
 Burman is a long-time chairman of the Illinois State Board of Investment, a $4 billion co-mingled fund whose beneficiaries are Illinois state employees, judges and legislators. He is also a trustee of Chicago's Latin School.
 In 1990, Burman received the Order of Lincoln, the highest award granted by the state of Illinois to one if its citizens.
 Burman did his undergraduate work at Northwestern University and received his law degree from Yale University.
 SafeCard Services, Inc. is the world's largest provider of credit card registry services and also provides other enhancement services through its credit card issuer clients.
