SAARC Social Media Cell proposed for sharing authentic information among member countries.
ISLAMABAD -- A workshop titled "Role of Social Media in Integration of the SAARC Region," Friday recommended to establish (Saarc) 'Social Media Cell' in member countries for enhancing mutual contacts and sharing authentic information and activities among the member countries.
The workshop, inaugurated by Secretary Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and Interfaith Harmony Mohammad Azam last day, was concluded on Friday at a local hotel here.
The workshop was organized by Saarc Information Centre (SIC) in collaboration with External Publicity Wing, Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and Interfaith Harmony.
The participants discussed threadbare how to enhance mutual cooperation, trade, culture,etc among the member counties of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) by using social media.
The workshop recommended unanimously that the Saarc members may integrate with each other on social media. Introducing new users to the SAARC group. Each participant may introduce at least 10 persons on Saarc Information Centre (SIC) platform within next 6 months following the snowball effect.
Likewise, SIC may encourage the members, who have already attended SIC meetings or workshops to join the SAARC social media alumni. Every member is encouraged to share information, activities, incidents, photographs or comments only with authentic sources.
The workshop recommended to establish Social Media Cell in information ministries of member states. A policy would be finalised in collaboration with SIC as to what is to be shared on social media officially.
The technical training may be arranged by Governments of the SAARC member states to encourage the usage of social media by people. The SIC may involve the foreign ministries of their member states and request them to revisit their visa policies for special occasions for general masses to promote people to people contacts.
The SIC website may be updated with the live streaming feature so that any cultural and other activities may be viewed live by the people of the member states.
The SIC website and its social media page may be updated on regular basis in mutually understandable languages.
