S&T BANK PLANS TO OPEN SUPERMARKET BANK
INDIANA, Pa., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- S&T Bank recently announced

plans to establish its first supermarket bank in West Kittanning, Pa.
The branch, which is subject to regulatory approval, will be located along Route 268 in the Hilltop Plaza's Foodland Supermarket. It is expected to open in July. The 900-square-foot branch will offer extended evening and weekend hours, and will provide most of the conveniences of a full-service bank. S&T currently operates a branch at 121 N. McKean Ave. in Kittanning.
"The establishment of a supermarket branch as part of our branch network will help us to establish ourselves as the service and convenience leader in the Kittanning market area. By complementing the supermarket's retail atmosphere, a supermarket branch can experience growth in both deposits and loans," Ed Hauck, senior vice president-operations for S&T, said.
The first supermarket branches began opening in the early 1970s. Today, with approximately 1,200 branches in supermarkets across the country, the supermarket branch offers a variety of business advantages.
For S&T, a supermarket branch will provide an opportunity to reach 20,000 new customers each week in the Kittanning market. Between 75 to 90 percent of the people coming into the supermarket will be other banks' customers. Hauck explained, "In traditional branches, banks cross-sell to existing customers. In supermarkets, banks can sell to customers with whom they have no prior relationship. It will enable us to provide products and services to people whose banks may be closed when they are out shopping."
S&T Bank, with assets in excess of $1 billion, operates 32 offices in Allegheny, Armstrong, Clearfield, Indiana, Jefferson and Westmoreland counties.
