Ryan's frying high after his skills scoop him top honours.

A VALLEYS chip shop worker is the UK's best young fish fryer.

Ryan Hughes, 22, from Tonyrefail, has been in the fish and chip industry for eight years. He has worked his way up from a pub's dishwasher to the manager of The Crispy Cod chip shop, itself named Wales' best chippy on numerous occasions.

In recent months he has been scrutinised in a tough judging process and it was the case of third time lucky for Ryan as, twice a finalist before, he scooped the top accolade recognised by industry body Seafish.

He said: "To be crowned the UK's young fish fryer of the year is a dream come true."
