Russian automotive manufacturer invests in I-DEAS Master Series software.
GAZ, with headquarters in Nizhni Novgorod, will use I-DEAS(TM) software extensively in the development and refinement of its 1.5-ton light trucks, vans, police and medical vehicles, and passenger cars. Activities will include performing structural analysis of a vehicle's body, suspension, and other sections; fatigue life analysis of vehicle components; modal analysis; and design optimization.
GAZ will be able to analyze data from laboratory and road tests and new vehicle structure simulations. Finite element modeling will allow GAZ engineers to optimize vehicle structure design in the early stages of the design process. With I-DEAS Test(TM) software applications, the test lab will have the opportunity to play a more valuable role throughout the mechanical design process. I-DEAS integration and data management capabilities will facilitate earlier and more effective communication of test results with design and simulation activities.
GAZ will also be using I-DEAS software for plastics analysis. The Russian car maker is the only such company in the country capable of producing complex tooling for thermoplastic injection molding. In this particular application, I-DEAS will be used for geometry modeling and for working with models imported from other CAD systems, for finite element modeling and for mold process analysis of such factors as mold filling, cooling, warping and shrinkage.
"Automotive manufacturers are faced with increasing pressures to deliver higher-quality products at reduced costs within shorter cycle times, while meeting customer demands and certification in both Russian and foreign markets," noted Yury Nasdlekov, chief of GAZ's Test Department. "In addition, we have to address such operating conditions as adapting to Russian roads and harsh weather conditions, bringing additional difficulties to the vehicle design process. However, we anticipate that the installation of I-DEAS Master Series will give us the tools to overcome these issues."
