Russian Federation : The unique 49-year-old prototype of Ferrari almost burned out in Monaco.
The unique 49-year-old Ferrari 512S Modulo concept, now owned by Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus owner James Glikenhaus, caught fire during a businessmans trip to Monaco. The fire was quickly extinguished thanks to the built-in fire extinguishing system, but the car's body was slightly burnt. In his twitter, Glickenhaus wrote that he had taken all the necessary actions to prevent the spread of fire: he slowed down and turned on the built-in fire extinguishing system. Due to the timely response of the Ferrari 512S Modulo, the practical was not damaged: the car is still on the move, and only the burnt body panels remind of the incident. According to the businessman, the custom silencer made by one of the former partners of his company became the cause of the fire.
Ferrari 512S Modulo is the first independent project of a young designer Paolo Martin, who at that time worked at Pininfarina. The show car, built on the chassis of a race car of the same name and equipped with a V12 with 560 power, was shown in 1970 at the Geneva Motor Show. Initially, the futuristic prototype could only move back and forth, as it did not have steering, but Glikenhaus fully restored it and even certified it for normal roads. The peculiarity of the car is a sliding dome, spherical elements, to which the main controls were carried out, a 24-hole engine compartment lid and closed wheel arches.
