Russian Federation : TRANSCONTAINER announces launch of SAINT PETERSBURG-KHABAROVSK container train.

TransContainer has announced the inaugural of a new block train on the route Saint Petersburg Khabarovsk.

According to rail operator, On July 17, the first train with consumer goods departed the company operated terminal of the St. Petersburg-Tovarniy-Vitebskiy station to the Khabarovsk-2 station of the Far Eastern Railway.

The train takes 10 days to cover the 8,827km-long route. Next train on this route is set for July 30, 2014. The twice in week service will enable customers to significantly reduce the transit time and to assure cargo safety. It will also give them the opportunity to receive a discount on rail fare, the company said.

TransContainer OJSC, Russia s leading intermodal container transportation and logistics company, runs as a subsidiary of Russian Railways (RZD) as of July 2006. The company holds 46 terminals in Russia s major freight centres, along with its branches covering the entire Russian railways network.
