Russell I. Milkman, 78.

SUTTON Russell I. Milkman, 78, died Sunday, September 27, in the Milford Regional Medical Center, following an illness. His wife, Carol (Johnson) Milkman, died in 2000, and a daughter, Debra J. Burnham, died in 2008. He is survived by two sons, Michael Milkman, and his wife, Linda, of Millville, and Steven Milkman, and his wife, Barbara, of Worcester; three daughters, Kate Milkman and Sally LaPorte, of Worcester; and Nancy DeBigare, of Whitinsville; and five grandchildren, Jennifer Burnham, Zachary Willsey, Benjamin DeBigare, Russell LaPorte, and Rochelle LaPorte. He was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Milkman.

Mr. Milkman was born, April 23, 1931, in Woonsocket, RI, a son of Earl and Irene (Bennett) Milkman. He grew up in Douglas, where he graduated from Douglas High School, and pitched for the high school baseball team. He moved to Sutton in 1958.

He was a US Navy veteran during the Korean War.

He was an assembler and fork lift operator at the General Motors assembly plant in Framingham for 30 years, retiring in 1993. Previously, he was an appliance repairman.

Mr. Milkman was a member of the Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church in Whitinsville, and he was an active member of the Sutton Senior Center. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, fishing and swimming. He was a former Webelos Leader, and an enthusiastic sports fan.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, October 3, in South Sutton Cemetery, Hough Road, Sutton. There are no Calling Hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Associatiion, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA, 02472.

Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill Street, Whitinsville, is assisting the family with arrangements
