Rural Telecom Project.

Nicaragua is seeking US$7 million from the World Bank's International Development Association for a Rural Telecom Project. The project will (a) improve access to and use of telecommunications services in rural areas for rural communities, governments and businesses; (b) continue to strengthen TELCOR (Instituto Nicaraguense de Telecomunicaciones y Correos) to ensure a successful transition from monopoly to a competitive market that will increase access to better and more affordable services; and (c) reform the postal sector.
