Rupert Murdoch joins Philip Morris Cos.

Philip Morris Cos. Inc, owner of the Miller Brewing Co., announced that Rupert Murdoch has been elected to its board of directors. Murdoch, 58, is chief executive of The News Corp. Ltd. The addition of Murdoch increases the Philip Morris board from 20 to 21 directors.

The News Corp., an Australian-based public corporation, comprises magazine and newspaper publishing operations worldwide.

Murdock took control of The News Corporation in 1954. The company produces a number of notable publications, including The Australian; The Times and The Sunday Times in Great Britain; and TV Guide and New York Magazine in the United States.
