Running Back to Ludie.

Johnson, Angela RUNNING BACK TO LUDIE. Il. by Angelo. ISBN 0-439-29316-2. New York: Orchard Books, 2001. 50 pp. $15.95. What is it like to be a teenager while missing your absent mother, feeling responsible for your loving father, being in love with your best friend's big brother, and experiencing all of the ups and downs of life? In short, this is a story about growing up, told simply and eloquently. As the young protagonist gets ready to meet "Ludie," the mother she has not seen since she was a young child, she shares her soul with the reader. This thoughtful book makes the heart ache for the narrator and for the challenges she faces as she makes the passage to adulthood. Ages 10 up. Reviewed by Terry Stahler, Kutztown University of PA
