G4 HAS been named the most financially successful finalist of X-Factor since the programme began. Research reveals how the classical quartet, featuring former Huddersfield student Matt Stiff (pictured), has earned almost double the amount of Shayne Ward, winner in the same series, according to leading independent personal finance website Fool.co.uk. With Leon crowned X-Factor winner last weekend, Fool.co.uk has analysed past participants to see if winners of the show generate the most cash.

Research shows that only two of the top five most successful X-Factor contestants were the actual show winners - something that could be music to Rhydian's ears!

Budding auditionees might want to keep this in mind, with other X-Factor losers such as Andy Abrahamand Journey South outselling the show's first winner Steve Brookstein by over pounds 1m.

Top Lucrative X-Factor finalists by sales revenue: 1 G4 (2004 runners-up) pounds 13,624,000, 2 Leona Lewis (2006 winner) pounds 13,221,883, 3 Shayne Ward (2005 winner) pounds 7,994,090, 4 Journey South (2005 third) pounds 3,640,950, 5 Andy Abraham (005 runner-up) pounds 2,756,700, 6 Steve Brookstein (2004 winner) pounds 2,446,500
