Runaway maids in Abu Dhabi forced to become prostitutes.

Three men are accused of helping maids to abscond from their employers and then getting them to work as prostitutes.

Abu Dhabi Criminal Court heard that the men, who are Indian and Bangladeshi, persuaded the five women to run away from the homes of their sponsors.

Official court documents stated thatthe women, also Indian and Bangladeshi, were taken to an apartment in the capital that was rented by the men.

Prosecutors said police arrested the group after investigations suggested that the flat was being used as a brothel.

"The men were caught red-handed as they took men to the apartment to have sex with these runaway maids," said prosecutors.

"They made the women sleep with different men after they paid them money."

It is also alleged that the men would take the women to hotels to have sex with clients.

However, the defendants denied human trafficking when they appeared in court.

Three of the women admitted to running away from their sponsors but denied engaging in prostitution. The other two admitted working as prostitutes after being told by the men to run away from their employers.

"The men persuaded me to run away from my boss stressing that they would get me a better paying job but they instead made me work as a prostitute," one of the women said.

The trial has been adjourned to November 14.
