Run-money boost for trainers at busy Harlow.

HARLOW owner Dave Barclay has pledged to increase run money at his track for trainers meeting new runner targets, writes Phil Donaldson.

Having seen his racing strength dip due to several trainers moving on, Barclay has come out fighting.

He said: "Any trainer at Harlow, be they new or already attached, who can regularly supply between 14 and 19 runners will be guaranteed run money of PS25 per dog, and those who maintain that through to December 1, 2015 will be paid a PS2,500 bonus.

"Trainers who maintain a strength of 20 or more will be paid PS30 a runner, with a PS5,000 bonus on the table. I'm tired of losing trainers and running shorter meetings than I'd like."

Barclay, who reports that his track had to put up the house full signs last weekend, continued: "We've just had a burster of a weekend, the best all year, and it's frustrating to not have a full card on offer.

"We're a relatively small stadium size-wise, but I'm planning some structural changes to the downstairs area next year which will allow us to raise the capacity.

"But an important part of moving forward is to keep the kennel strength up, and if needs be I'll raise the bar further in the future financially. Of course we have one eye on Bags. It would be great for our business, but I also want people to want to run their dogs here and feel they can make a go of it financially."
