Run second to none.

I TRAVELLED to my native North East for my fifth Great North Run last Sunday and just wanted to share my thoughts.

The support on the route is fantastic. The people of the North East really embrace this run as their own.

There is a lot of criticism levelled at the Great North Run as being expensive and overcrowded but despite this I believe it is a great celebration of local culture.

I love the enthusiasm of the local people who are taking part, shouting encouragement or providing oranges and ice lollies. Thanks also to the Newcastle Hash House Harriers who provide a beer stop en route! I live in Leeds now and I only wish that the people in this city would support their local running events as we do in the North East.
