Rugby Union: Werner Swanepoel.
Swanepoel made his Test debut against the Lions in 1997 and spent much of his subsequent international career as understudy to Joost van der Westhuizen.
'Richard Smith has done a tremendous job for us at scrum-half this season, but signing Werner gives us another first-class performer in a crucial position,' said Worcester coach John Brain.
'Many people still regard him as the best scrum-half in South Africa. We have beaten a couple of Premiership clubs for Werner's signature and this signals our clear intent to compete among the best.' Worcester once again missed out on promotion to the Zurich Premiership this season, finishing second in National League One behind Rotherham.
