Rugby Union: RUGBY LIONS 39 ORRELL 7.

RUGBY Lions won comfortably against bottom side Orrell, but they will feel they should have turned their dominance into more points after establishing a 22-point lead by half-time.

Rugby scored from the kick off with James Hawken converting his own try. But as the sodden pitch cut up, Lions found it harder to utilise their quick backs to best effect.

Lions scored a second try through flanker Danny Facer, Hawken's second touchline conversion taking his side 14-0 ahead with 12 minutes played.

Orrell did start to mount some threatening attacks but Lions held out although errors cost them further scoring chances until Hawken kicked a penalty on the half hour.

Lions looked certain to score but centre Tim Douglas saw the muddy ball slip through his fingers five metres out, only for Toby Handley to score straight after for a 22-0 Rugby lead at half time.

Lions again scored an early try on the restart through Phil Greenbury but found it hard to make the most of their chances in the conditions, adding a try from Tristan Wati against a converted try from Orrell from Dominic Fraternyali. With Orrell tempers becoming frayed, Lions were awarded a late penalty try converted by Hawken.

SCORERS: Rugby Lions - tries: Hawken, Facer, Handley, Wati, Greenbury, penalty try; conversions: Hawken (3); penalty: Hawken.

Orrell - try: Fraternyali; conversion: Makhaza.
