Rugby Union: LATE PUSH OVER FOR SAD LIONS.

RUGBY LIONS 21

HULL ION. 40

RUGBY Lions produced their worst display of the season in front of a disappointed crowd to kill off any lingering thoughts of a late push for promotion into National League Two.

Lions were outplayed in the first quarter by lowly Hull, who scored a try through Garry Acton, converted by Karl Birch, after four minutes.

Lions kicked a penalty through James Hawken on their only visit to Hull territory in the first quarter. Hawken and Birch then exchanged penalties, with Hull looking the more determined side.

Lions' pressure brought a converted try for Ade Hales but Hull scrum-half James Greene's converted try restored the visitors' lead at 17-13 by half time.

Birch added another penalty for Hull on the restart. When Rugby applied sustained pressure, however, they could not score.

Hull intercepted for Joe Donkin to score their third converted try to lead 27-13 on 52 minutes.

Matt Goode's converted try for Lions was cancelled out by Hull's penalty try on 66 minutes and their fifth converted try by Richard Wigham.

SCORERS: Rugby Uons - Tries: Hales, Goode; Cons: Hawken 2; Pens: Hawken 2. Hull - Tries: Acton, Greene, Donkin, Pens: Wigham. Cons: Karl Birch 5; Pens: Birch 2.
